The Conformateur and Formillion with plot board in the photos dates back to the early 19th century when hats were made to measure because they were a part of everyday attire. hese centuries old tools form a two-part measurement system that would provide Hat makers with the shape of your skull and the ability to create a truly custom fit.
How to Measure Your Head Size
A. Select a pliable tape measure (often referred to as a “Tailors Tape measure”) or a piece of string.
B. Encircle your head where your hat will sit positioned mid-forehead, just above your ears and over the skull bone at the back of your head. Be sure to hold the tape or string snug, but not too tight.
C. Identify your head circumference measurement in cm or inches. If you are using a string, take the string length and then place it alongside a ruler to get your head circumference.
D. Locate your measurement in the head size chart below and place your order.
